Nearly 300 firefighters are battling a 300-acre fire that appeared Friday afternoon 12 miles southwest of Veneta, a town about 15 miles west of Eugene in Lane County.
Firefighters had the fire 40% contained by Sunday afternoon, the Oregon Department of Forestry said in a statement, and no one has been injured.
