Oregon women’s golf came up just shy of Stanford in the NCAA Championship match.
The top-seeded Cardinal edged the No. 2 seed Ducks, 3-2, in the NCAA Championship match Wednesday afternoon at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Arizona.
Tied after three, Stanford’s Brooke Seay took command against Oregon’s Ching-Tzu Chen in the first pairing of the match. Seay went up three after seven and up five after 12 holes in a 4&3 win.
Aline Krauter dominated UO’s Hsin-Yu Lu, taking a six hole lead after eight and cruised to a 5&3 win.
Oregon’s Briana Chacon trailed Stanford’s Sadie Englemann by one at the turn and they went back-and-forth during the back nine. Chacon won the 17th and 18th to win the match..
UO’s Tze-Han (Heather) Lin never trailed Rachel Heck and led by one through eight holes. Lin won the 14th and 15th in a 3&2 win to even the overall match at 2 apiece.
In the deciding final pairing, Stanford’s Rose Zhang won the firs three holes and maintained that advantage over Oregon’s Sofie Kibsgaard Nielsen after 11. Nielsen won the 12th and 14th to get within one, but lost the 15th and 17th in a 3&1 win for the Zhang, who won the NCAA individual title on Monday.
