The Portland Thorns and Timbers made their franchise’s voice heard on a controversial Supreme Court decision Friday, speaking out against the court’s ruling that overturns Roe v. Wade and encouraging fans to get involved in the issue through donations to the Center for Reproductive Rights.
“Abortion is a human right,” the statement from PTFC, first posted to the Thorns’ Twitter account, reads. “The Portland Timbers and Thorns strongly disagree with the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade. The constitutional rights enshrined in Roe have been a critical underpinning of the fight for equality in the United States for nearly 50 years.
