Antonio Soto, 34, was sentenced to life in prison for the murder of Davontae Smith, 21, and attempted murder of Adrian Gonzales, 22, in Marion County Circuit Court on Thursday.
Smith, who was from Portland, was found with a fatal gunshot wound at around 3:30 a.m. June 8, 2021, at the Capital Inn and Suites in Salem. According to a news release from the Marion County District Attorney’s Office, Soto shot and killed Smith and almost shot Gonzales when they tried to help a woman Soto was assaulting in the hallway of the hotel.
Soto will serve at least 45 years before he is eligible for parole.
