Multnomah County grand juries indicted two men on Thursday suspected of critically injuring a man in a shooting last month in downtown Portland.
The victim has since been released from the hospital and is recovering from his injuries, Portland police said. They have not released his name.
Dwayne Rayshon Driver, 28, of Portland was indicted in Multnomah County Circuit Court on charges of second-degree murder, first-degree assault, unlawful use of a weapon and of being a felon in possession of a gun.
He was previously convicted of attempted murder with a gun and first-degree burglary in 2015, court records show.
A grand jury also indicted Avis Shermice Moore, 49, of Portland, accused of being the getaway driver. Moore pleaded not guilty on Friday to charges of second-degree murder, first-degree assault and unlawful use of a weapon, according to court records.
Officers were patrolling the area of West Burnside Street and Southwest 4th Avenue on March 18 when they heard gunshots about 1:45 p.m. Police found a man with three gunshot wounds collapsed behind Dante’s at 350 W. Burnside St., according to a probable cause affidavit.
Security footage shows the shooting occurred in the Chevron parking lot across the street from Dante’s, according to the affidavit.
The video shows a silver Audi SUV pull into the parking lot at 1:41 a.m. A man steps out of the car and puts what appears to be a gun in his pocket. The man walks toward a party bus, and after getting on and off the bus a few times, he steps inside and begins firing multiple times, the affidavit said. He then is seen getting into the SUV and driving away.
A witness told police he watched the bus drive from the Chevron to Dante’s parking lot, where a man stumbled out and collapsed onto the ground, according to the document.
While investigating, officers heard more gunfire near Southwest Third Avenue and Ankeny Street, about a block south of Dante’s.
Officers found evidence of gunfire but no victims or suspects. Police said many people were leaving the scene when they arrived.
Detectives identified Driver as the suspect and executed a search warrant at his home in North Portland’s Overlook neighborhood on April 3. They found a gun inside his home and a silver Audi SUV parked in front, according to the affidavit.
Officers arrested Driver on April 13 and booked him into the Multnomah County Detention Center.
Prosecutors asked that Driver be held without bail due to the violent nature of the crime and possible public safety risk, according to the Multnomah County District Attorney’s Office.
