Remote work has created a tax break for tens of thousands of people living in Washington who used to commute to Oregon to do their jobs.
People living north of the Columbia River owe Oregon income taxes for money they earn while working in Oregon. But those former commuters from Washington who now do their jobs at home don’t have to pay Oregon taxes for days they work remotely, even if their employer is based in Portland.
