The Oregon Ducks play the No. 3 Stanford Cardinal Thursday night in the final game of pool play at the Pac-12 Baseball Tournament in Scottsdale, Arizona.
The sixth-seeded Ducks need a win to advance to Friday’s semifinals.
They earned a come-from-behind 3-2 victory over the Cal Bears in the opening round of pool play on Tuesday, claiming their first win in two years at the tournament. It bolstered their hopes of drawing an at-large bid in the NCAA Baseball Tournament, but multiple Ducks players said earlier in the week that they were viewing tonight’s game as a “must-win.”
It won’t be easy.
Top-seeded Stanford has been the class of the Pac-12 all season, winning eight of 10 conference series to win the regular season championship by five games. But one of their series defeats came against the Ducks, who won the first two games of a three-game series in Eugene in April.
Oregon sputtered after the pair of wins, however, finishing 9-11 over the final 20 games, including 3-7 in May.
