Moët Hennessy’s Wines and Spirits division has supported a crowdfunding campaign organised by the Louvre to replant the Grande Allée in the Tuileries Garden.
The “Tous Mécènes!” initiative, of which Moët Hennessy is a patron, is in its eleventh year, and aims to re-green and restore the Tuileries Garden at the heart of the French capital.
Musée du Louvre’s programme last winter saw 92 elm trees planted and 26 stone benches refurbished along the central Grande Allée path.
Moët Hennessy Sustainable Development Director Sandrine Sommer noted the Wines and Spirits division of LVMH’s longstanding involvement in sustainable development actions, making its support of the “Tous Mécènes!” replanting project a natural choice.
In 2020 the company created a framework for sustainable initiatives called the Living Soils Living Together programme. Soil regeneration and protection of biodiversity are at the heart of LVMH’s environmental initiatives, as are the values of culture and heritage long championed by the brand.
Created in 1564 for Catherine de Medicis, the Jardin des Tuileries redesigned in 1664 by André Le Nôtre for Louis XIV. September 14 2020 saw the launch of the campaign to replant some of the elm trees within the garden which were in bad health, restoring the space known as a masterpiece of French garden style.
Thanks to donations from approximately 4,500 donors, the Musée du Louvre was able to raise upwards of one million euros from the project.
Looking back to 2020 before Moët Hennessy’s involvement in the replanting project, the company made the decision to go completely herbicide free with its wine division, putting 20 million euros into sustainable development. Read more on that here.
