Portlanders love independent bookstores and Saturday, your favorite bookstores will love you back.
A whopping 10 area bookstores are listed on the map of stores that plan to participate in the 10th annual Independent Bookstore Day, an event aimed at highlighting locally-owned bookstores.
In Portland, that list includes local favorites Annie Bloom’s Books, Broadway Books and, of course, Powell’s Books.
At Annie Bloom’s Books (7834 S.W. Capitol Hwy.) visitors can participate in a treasure hunt. The winner of which will earn a year of free audiobooks.
The store will also offer “exclusive literary items that you can only get on that day,” according to Michael Keefe, a spokesperson for Annie Bloom’s.

Anyone who spends $75 or more will get a free Indie Bookstore Day tote bag while supplies last and anyone who spends $150 or more will get a free Broadway Books tote bag in lieu of the Indie Bookstore Day tote.
And Powell’s Books (1005 W. Burnside St., 3723 S.E. Hawthorne Blvd., and 3415 S.W. Cedar Hills Blvd., Beaverton) celebrates with freebies like stickers, buttons, temporary tattoos as well as special merchandise for sale at all three stores.
