Portland Timbers midfielder Diego Chará was named to the MLS team of the matchday for June 17, the league announced Monday.
Chará, 37, played a full 90 minutes on Saturday for the 18th time out of 18 possible matches this season — the only Portland player to play every single minute this season. He was crucial in defensive midfield as the Timbers earned their third consecutive shutout with a 0-0 draw at San Jose.
Against the Earthquakes, Chará recorded a team-high four tackles won, 13 recoveries, and 41 completed passes. He had 95.3% passing accuracy.
Chará is Portland’s all-time leader in games played (356) and starts (351), leading the team in the 2023 season in tackles won (21), recoveries (119), and successful passes (575).
