Ex-FBI supervisory agent arrested in Bend on Jan. 6 Capitol riot charges

A former supervisory FBI agent is accused of confronting police outside the U.S. Capitol, calling them “Nazis” and encouraging rioters to “kill ‘em!” during the Jan. 6, 2021 insurrection, according to court records.

Jared L. Wise, 50, of Texas, was arrested in Bend on riot charges and made his first appearance in federal court in Eugene Monday.

He was released and ordered to appear by video for a hearing in the District of Columbia on May 9.

Wise worked for the FBI from 2004 until 2017, according to the affidavit. Prosecutors said he worked on public corruption and counterterrorism matters in FBI offices in Washington, D.C. and New York.

He’s accused of unlawfully entering the Capitol’s restricted grounds with the intent to impede or disrupt government business.

According to an FBI affidavit filed in court Monday, Wise entered the U.S. Capitol through the Senate wing door at 2:23 p.m. , raised his hands in triumph, walked through the Crypt and past the Memorial Door, before exiting through a window next to the Senate wing door about 10 minutes later.

Later in the afternoon, he approached Metropolitan Police Department officers on the upper west terrace, announced that he was former law enforcement, and yelled, “You’re disgusting. You are the Nazi. You are the Gestapo. You can’t see it. . . . Shame on you! Shame on you! Shame on you!” the affidavit said.

When officers were being knocked to the ground directly in front of him, he turned in the direction of the violence and yelled, “Yeah, kill ‘em!” according to police body camera footage, FBI special agent Jessica L. Stone wrote in the affidavit.

Wise lived in New Braunfels, Texas, until June 25, according to an apartment manager, the affidavit said. When he moved out, he left a forwarding address in Bend, Stone wrote.
