Ja Morant could be facing a significant suspension after his latest gun video, according to a report.
The Memphis Grizzlies suspended the star guard Sunday after he appeared to be holding a gun in an Instagram Live video that surfaced on social media Saturday night. The Grizzlies suspended Morant from all team activities “pending a league review.”
The Grizzlies reacted quickly to suspend Morant after the latest video. The suspension comes just two months after the league suspended Morant eight games following an Instagram Live video in which Morant brandished a gun in a Denver nightclub.
The league is investigating the latest incident and Morant could be facing a “lengthy suspension” to start the 2023-24 season, according to a report.
According to the report, NBA commissioner Adam Silver will be under “increasing pressure” from other teams because of the potential negative fallout from Morant. Those teams are concerned about their ability to market their players and teams in light of Morant’s video.
In addition, Silver can’t be happy now after he met with Morant following the first incident and Morant reportedly pledged to do better. Silver may have gone easy on Morant the first time, but Morant could be a repeat offender. It’s unlikely Silver will be as forgiving, especially when the league’s brand and image is at risk.
