The second and final day of the men’s decathlon began Sunday at the World Athletics Championships in Eugene with the 110 meters hurdles. The first day ended with the leader, Canada’s Damian Warner, dropping out after the 400 meters.
The new leader, Ayden Owens-Delerme of Puerto Rico, finished the first day with 4,606 points following a win in the 400 meters. He didn’t finish in the top two of the previous four events of day one.
Following the 110 meters hurdles, consisting of three heats, Owens-Delerme currently leads the overall field. Owens-Delerme ran a time of 13.88 seconds, adding 990 points for a total of 5,596. Pierre LePage of Canada came in first place in the hurdles with a time of 13.78, adding 1,003 points for a total of 5,488, good for second place in the overall field.
The third and fourth spots on the leaderboard are taken by Zachery Ziemek and Kyle Garland of Team USA, respectively. Ziemeck, with a time of 14.47, added 915 points for a total of 5,384. Garland, with a time of 14.18, added 951 points for a total of 5,364.
The next event in the men’s decathlon, the discus throw, is scheduled for 10:30 a.m.
