The Trail Blazers entered the 2023 NBA draft lottery with worse odds to win the No. 1 pick than the Detroit Pistons and Houston Rockets. The Blazers lucked out and won the No. 3 pick.
The San Antonio Spurs, Pistons and Rockets each had odds of 14% of winning the No. 1 pick and drafting Victor Wembanyama while the Blazers’ odds rested at 10.5% going into Tuesday’s draft lottery.
The Spurs won the No. 1 pick and based on the odds, the Rockets and Pistons should have received a higher pick than the Blazers. Instead, the Blazers leaped past the Rockets and Pistons. The Rockets were awarded the No. 4 pick and the Pistons received the fifth pick.
While the Blazers are probably happy with the No. 3 pick, the pick has folks on social media wondering what the Blazers will do. Will they make a selection? Trade the pick? Trade Lillard and rebuild?
