Of the four U.S. women competing in the 100 meters hurdles heats at the World Athletics Championships on Saturday in Eugene, two moved onto the semifinals.
Nia Ali, the defending world champion and silver medalist at the Rio Olympics, was disqualfied during the first heat after hitting the final two hurdles and suffering a fall. Former University of Oregon athlete Alaysha Johnson was DQ’d after hitting the first two hurdles in the fourth heat.
Johnson is the Ducks’ program record-holder in the 100 meters hurdles, with a time of 12.69 seconds.
Alia Armstong, running one heat after Johnson, was second overall among the qualifiers with a time of 12.48, winning the heat for an automatic qualification. Kendra Harrison took first in the sixth and final heat to automatically qualify with a time of 12.60.
The semifinals of the women’s 100 meters hurdles are scheduled for Sunday evening.
