Oregon softball’s 13-game win streak is over.
The No. 13 Ducks managed just four hits in a 3-1 loss to No. 20 Utah Friday night at Jane Sanders Stadium.
A solo home run by Ariel Carlson gave Oregon (35-12, 14-8 Pac-12) a 1-0 lead after two. But UO’s bats went cold after that.
Mariah Lopez allowed a run on four hits and struck out seven in a complete game win for the Utes (32-13, 13-9 Pac-12). It was one of the best career outings of the Utah junior left-hander, who had dropped three of her prior four starts.
Lopez retired 17 of Oregon’s final 19 batters, with one of two hitters being negated by a double play in the sixth.
Morgan Scott (12-5) allowed three runs on eight hits and a walk and struck out two over 7.0 innings in the loss. She breezed through the first four innings before Utah’s offense broke through in the fifth.
Sophie Jacquez singled to open the frame and Kendall Lundberg (2 for 3) lined a two-run home run to left center to put the Utes ahead. Two batters later, Karlie Davison smacked a solo homer to right center. Utah added two hits and a walk to load the bases but Scott got out of the jam.
The teams will continue the series at 4 p.m. Saturday.
