Oregon had a five-run lead but walks and home runs allowed by the bullpen allowed Arizona State to come back and take the series finale.
Matthew Grabmann’s nearly flawless 3.1 innings went for naught as six relievers combined to allow nine runs on nine hits, six walks and a hit batter in a 9-6 loss for the No. 23 Ducks to the No. 17 Sun Devils Sunday afternoon at PK Park.
Oregon (30-13, 13-8 Pac-12) stayed in third place in the Pac-12, two games back of first-place Stanford with nine conference games to play.
RBI singles by Tanner Smith, Jacob Walsh and Drew Smith and a two-run home run by Rikuu Nishida gave UO a 5-0 lead after five.
Leo Uelmen issued a leadoff walk and two batters later Luke Hill hit a two-run home run to get Arizona State (29-15, 14-6) on the board and it added a run via a sacrifice fly.
Hill added an RBI double off Turner Spoljaric in the seventh and Luke Keaschall and Jacob Tobias hit back-to-back home runs off Josh Mollerus (1-2) to give ASU a 7-5 lead.
Oregon got a run back via an error but the Sun Devils added a two-run homer in the ninth off Mollerus and Blake Pivaroff closed out the Ducks to pick up his third save.
The Ducks plays at Oregon State at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday before heading to USC on Friday.
