Oregon is preparing to use a powerful new tool to tackle the state’s acute homelessness crisis: federal Medicaid dollars.
The concept is pathbreaking. Federal health care money normally reserved for doctor’s visits and hospitalizations could in many cases pay to house and feed vulnerable Oregonians. That would signal new recognition that being sheltered and eating nutritious food are fundamental to good health.
