Oregon’s season is on the line after it allowed eight unanswered runs to Oklahoma State.
Morgyn Wynne reached on a fielder’s choice that allowed the go-ahead run to score on an error in the fourth and broke the game open with a three-run home run in the fifth for the No. 6 seed Cowgirls, who beat the Ducks 8-1 Thursday night in Stillwater.
Lexi Kilfoyl retired the final 17 straight for Oklahoma State (45-14), which saved ace Kelly Maxwell for Game 2 on Friday (3 p.m., ESPN2). Kilfoyl (16-5) allowed a run on three hits, all singles, and struck out three over 7.0 innings.
Oregon (38-16) got on the board in the second as KK Humphreys led off with a single, advanced on a ground out and scored on a single by Alyssa Daniell. But that was the last of UO’s offense.
Morgan Scott breezed through the Oklahoma State lineup the first time through, but lost command in a three-run fourth.
Kiley Naomi hit a towering home run to left to tie the game at 1. A one-out walk and double put two in scoring position and Scott got Wynne to ground back to her, but hesitated before throwing home for what was shaping up to be an easy out but instead the go-ahead run scored as Scott’s throw was into the dirt. Tallen Edwards singled to left to make it 3-1 and after another walk the night was over for Scott (13-7), who allowed three runs, two earned, on five hits and two walks over 3.1 innings in the loss.
Raegan Breedlove issued a four-pitch walk to open the bottom of the fifth and a throwing error by Humphreys allowed Chyenne Factor to get aboard and the runners to advance. Tehya Bird made a nice play to keep the runners in place and Allee Bunker, who had an unassisted double play to end the fourth, made a spectacular diving grab that saved a run on an RBI ground out that made it 4-1. Katelynn Carwile worked a walk and Wynee drilled an 0-2 pitch for a three-run line drive homer to left that broke the game open.
Oregon assistant coach Nikki Ragin was ejected after Kedre Luschar was called out for being out of the batter’s box for the first out in the sixth. It was the second time second base umpire Cameron Ellis called a UO left-handed batter for being out of the box, with Hanna Delgado’s would-be two-out single negated by the same call in the fourth.
The Cowgirls added another run on another misplayed ball by Humphreys that was generously scored an RBI single by Factor.
Breedlove allowed five runs, one earned, on three hits and two walks over 2.2 innings.
