Oregon State’s bats came through in the clutch to deliver the Beavers baseball team a midweek road victory.
Trailing by one run in the ninth inning and down to their final out, the Beavers rallied past the Seattle Redhawks for a 6-5 win Wednesday at Bannerwood Park in Bellevue, Washington.
Pinch hitter Brady Kasper sent the first pitch he saw to right-center field for an RBI triple that tied the game at 5-5, and then Travis Bazzana drove in Kasper with an RBI single to left to give Oregon State the one-run lead.
Things got a bit interesting in the bottom of the ninth as Seattle got runners on first and second with two outs. But Beavers reliever Aiden Jimenez struck out Matt Boissoneault looking to end the game and earn his first save of the year.
Seven OSU pitchers combined to strike out 13 Seattle hitters. Nelson Keljo (1-0) struck out the side in the eighth, his lone inning of work, to pick up the win.
The Beavers (16-9) got on the board first on Mason Guerra’s two-run homer to right-center in the fourth inning. Seattle (5-16) cut it to 2-1 on Hudson Shupe’s RBI single in the fifth and then took the lead on Michael Tsoukalas’ three-run homer in the sixth.
OSU’s Wilson Weber hit a two-run homer to right in the seventh to tie it at 4-4, but then the Redhawks regained the lead on Boissoneault’s sacrifice fly in the bottom of the seventh.
Easton Talt led off the ninth with a single to left for Oregon State, and Talt advanced to second on Canon Reeder’s sac bunt. After Weber flied out, Kasper came through with his triple.
Bazzana finished 3 for 5 and Reeder had two hits, both doubles, for the Beavers.
Next up: Oregon State stays in Seattle, meeting Washington for a three-game series that begins at 6:05 p.m. Friday.
