CORVALLIS — The Oregon State Beavers built a big lead early and then rolled to a 12-3 victory over the San Diego Toreros on Saturday night to advance to the Corvallis Regional final of the NCAA baseball tournament.
Garret Forrester homered and finished with three RBIs, while Jake Dukart tripled to drive in two runs of his own.
Oregon State starter Jake Pfennigs allowed three runs on six hits in 5 1/3 innings before giving way to Brock Townsend, who allowed just one hit while striking out five in 3 2/3 innings.
The Beavers, who are the No. 3 national seed and No. 1 seed in the regional, now await the winner of Sunday’s 1 p.m. elimination game between No. 2 regional seed Vanderbilt and No. 3 seed San Diego.
Oregon State will take on the Vanderbilt-San Diego winner at 6 p.m. Sunday. With a win there, the Beavers will advance to super regionals. But even with an OSU loss, the teams would meet again at 1 p.m. Monday to decide the winner of the double-elimination regional.
The Commodores eliminated No. 4 New Mexico State earlier Saturday, blowing out the Aggies 21-1.
