A handful of House lawmakers showed up for a floor session in February 2020, after most Republicans in the chamber launched a boycott in protest against a greenhouse gas cap-and-trade bill up for a vote in the Senate.
Oregon voters will decide in November whether to amend the state Constitution to penalize any state lawmakers who boycott the Capitol in an effort to kill legislation they oppose.
On Tuesday, state elections workers finished verifying that the well-funded union-backed campaign to get the measure on the ballot had collected the 149,360 signatures necessary to qualify. It’s the first citizen-initiated measure to qualify for the ballot this year.
