The Philadelphia 76ers have fired head coach Doc Rivers, according to report Tuesday morning.
The decision comes after the 76ers lost to the Boston Celtics in the Eastern Conference semifinal playoff series. The 76ers were blown out 112-88 in Game 7 of the series on Sunday. The 76ers lost the series after taking a 3-2 advantage following their win in Game 5.
Rivers, 61, had led the 76ers to the Eastern Conference semifinals in each of his three seasons in Philadelphia. However, he couldn’t led the 76ers past the second round, which included upset losses to the Atlanta Hawks in 2021 and the Miami Heat in 2022. Rivers posted a 154-82 (.653) record during his three seasons with the 76ers.
Potential candidates for the job include former Milwaukee coach Mike Budenholzer, former Phoenix coach Monty Williams, 76ers’ assistant coach Sam Cassell and former Los Angeles Lakers coach Frank Vogel.
