Portland’s high-temperature record for May 13 fell Saturday when Portland International Airport hit 93 degrees, beating the record of 92 degrees set in 1973.
Sunday could set its own record. The National Weather Service forecasts temperatures in Portland could reach 94 degrees — three degrees hotter than the record for May 14 set in 2014.
Elsewhere in Oregon, cities are tying if not breaking records for heat, according to the weather service. And they’ll have plenty more days of hot weather to try for new ones. Daytime temperatures in Portland are expected to hover in the high 80s or low 90s through Friday, according to the weather service.

Take precaution to keep your families, neighbors and pets safe. A number of fountains in Portland and splash pads from Hillsboro to Sandy beckon. If your Mother’s Day plans include a visit to a natural body of water, know that area rivers have recorded temperatures in the 50s.
Cold water shock can kill swimmers even in calm waters. Always wear a life jacket when boating. Most drownings in Oregon occur during warmer months.
