The Portland Business Alliance said Thursday it would rebrand as the Portland Metro Chamber, a name it said would better represent its work and geographic scope.
The organization has acted as the Portland area’s chamber of commerce since its founding — under the name Portland Trade Board — in 1870. It was more recently known as the Portland Metropolitan Chamber until 2001, when it adopted the Business Alliance moniker.
The announcement came during the group’s annual meeting, held Thursday at the Sentinel hotel. Addressing the organization’s members, Gov. Tina Kotek and Multnomah County Chair Jessica Vega Pederson also announced a $2.5 million initiative to give people experiencing homelessness jobs cleaning up trash in Portland.
