Still looking for a present for the woman who gave you everything? How about an air conditioner unit or one of those personal fans that spritz water?
This year on Mother’s Day in Portland, all the moms will be hot. That’s because Portland has an 80 to 90% chance of hitting at least 90 degrees on Sunday.
While Wednesday’s high was only expected to reach the mid-60s, according to Daniel Hartsock, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Portland, things are about to get a lot warmer.
“We’ve got high pressure building over, us which is the typical pattern for these quick warm-ups,” Hartsock said Monday.
Monday and Tuesday will have highs in the mid-60s, he said, with Wednesday and Thursday heating up to the 70s. By Friday, we should jump into the mid-80s, Hartsock said.
Saturday and Sunday are expected to be hot and dry, Hartsock said, with Sunday expected to be the warmest day. There’s even a 50% that the Portland area hits 95 degrees. If temperatures got that high, Portland would break its Mother’s Day heat record, which currently stands at 92 degrees, set in 1973 at the Portland International Airport.
One thing you shouldn’t do with your mom this weekend? Jump into one of the rivers in or near Portland. They are all still very cold and moving quickly. Wading pools, however, are a great compromise.
