Portland July Fourth forecast calls for sun during day, mid-70s

The grills should stay dry Monday as they get a holiday workout with a forecast that calls for mostly sun during the day, some clouds into the Fourth of July evening and highs in the mid-70s.

The temperature should be around 65 in Portland at sunset for fireworks-show watching, according to the National Weather.

After midnight, the chance of rain increases to 50 percent but with no more than a tenth of an inch of accumulation expected, the weather service said.

“Most of the forecast area should remain clear of low clouds for any Independence Day festivities this evening … even along the coast,” forecasters said in their daily discussion.

The report comes with some fire safety tips from the weather service: People cause 85% of fires, so have a hose at the ready when you grill and don’t leave grills unattended.
