Wednesday morning’s clearing skies and light winds are bringing fog to the metro area. Nighttime low temperatures may even bring some freezing fog to outlying locations.
The National Weather Service says frost or fog are likely in many areas early Wednesday. Fog was seen on traffic cameras across the region including in Washington and Clark counties. Once the fog clears, Portland should see a mostly dry day with some light showers lingering from Tuesday’s system. Skies will be partly sunny by the afternoon, and the high temperature will reach near 56 degrees.
Thursday may also be a mostly dry day, at least through the morning hours. The weather service says a weak front will pass through later in the day bringing a 40% chance of rain across the metro area. The high will be about 54 degrees.
The next system moving south from the Gulf of Alaska will arrive on Friday spreading valley rain and mountain snow that will continue into the weekend. Portland will see a cold wet day Friday while the mountains and foothills get another round of snowfall. Portland’s high will only reach near 49 degrees, about 10 degrees lower than the average during late March. The snow level could be as low as 2,500 feet.
Snow levels will continue to fall until they reach about 2,000 feet Saturday. The weekend is looking cold and rainy in the Portland area, and snowy in even the lower foothills. Extended forecasts are showing winter weather lasting through Sunday. The mountain passes could see up to a foot of new snow through Friday, and then another foot from Saturday to Sunday.
