Portland Timbers midfielder Evander has been named to the MLS team of the week for Matchday 10, the league announced Monday, earning the honor for the first time since joining Portland on a club-record transfer.
Evander scored the first goal of the match — a penalty kick in the 63rd minute — as the Timbers defeated St. Louis 2-1 on the road Saturday.
Timbers midfielder Cristhian Paredes also made the team of the week bench after a strong performance in the win. He came on as a first-half substitute and played 69 minutes after midfielder David Ayala left with an injury.
Evander has appeared in seven matches, stating five, for Portland this season. He played a full 90 minutes on Saturday and is coming into form after a hip injury sidelined him for several weeks. The top-dollar Brazilian signee is tied with Dairon Asprilla and Juan Mosquera for the team lead in goals with two.
Portland’s next match is at home against Austin FC. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Providence Park, with a live stream available on the Apple TV app with a subscription to MLS Season Pass.
