In partnership with myriad local nonprofits and volunteer organizations, the Portland Timbers and Thorns begin their annual “Stand Together Week” on Monday.
From July 11-17, volunteers from the Timbers and Thorns teams and front office will join a total of 28 nonprofit projects and volunteer events in the community.
“Since 2012, Stand Together Week has mobilized 6,575 volunteers to provide the Portland metro area with 22,244 hours of service at more than 276 events benefiting youth and the environment,” PTFC said in a release. “Nonprofits served include The Sunshine Division, the Children’s Book Bank, Friends of Trees, Habitat for Humanity Portland, Zenger Farm, among many others.”

Monday, July 11
Open School Inc. Time: 1:30 p.m.-3 p.m. Activity: Join Timbers players Felipe Mora and Diego Gutierrez and Thorns FC players Morgan Weaver and Marissa Everett as volunteers help to set up rooms for the school year and organize school supplies for the year. Tuesday, July 12
Children’s Book Bank Time: 1:30-3 p.m. Activity: Thorns FC general manager Karina LeBlanc, Thorns FC players Taylor Porter and Abby Smith and Timbers players Jaroslaw Niezgoda and David Bingham will volunteer to spruce-up community donated books that will be distributed to low-income preschool children in the Portland area. Rose Haven Time: 1:30-3 p.m. Activity: Timbers player Justin Rasmussen and Thorns FC assistant coach Vytas Andriuskevicius will help volunteers create goodie bags that include water bottles, food, blankets and more. Sunshine Division Time: 1:30-3 p.m. Activity: Join Timbers Owner and CEO Merritt Paulson, players Sebastián Blanco, Claudio Bravo and David Ayala, Thorns FC forward Yazmeen Ryan as well as Thorns FC assistant coach Vytas Andriuskevicius as they volunteer in projects at Sunshine Division such as packing food boxes, sorting donated items and boxing them up. Blessings in a Backpack Time: 3-5 p.m. Activity: Join Timbers general manager Gavin Wilkinson, Timbers players Yimmi Chara, Santiago Moreno and Pablo Bonilla as well as Thorns FC players Meaghan Nally, Kelli Hubly as they pack sacks of kid-friendly and nutritious food items that will be sent home with kids over the weekend in the fall. Habitat for Humanity Portland Time: 1:30-3:30 p.m. Activity: Join Timbers and Thorns FC president of business Mike Golub, Timbers head coach Giovanni Savarese, players Diego Chara and Cristhian Paredes as well as Thorns FC players Emily Menges and Meghan Klingenberg in working with Habitat’s construction staff to build a home for a local family in need.
