Put away the sleds and the guilt you may feel for never having shoveled your walkway after Portland’s historic snowfall. Sunday’s high temperature around 42 degrees in the Portland area will bring on more melting, and any new precipitation that falls will be in the form of rain.
Saturday’s forecast carried the possibility of new snow overnight, but that accumulation didn’t materialize in the Portland area. Instead of half an inch to 2 inches, only a trace of snow fell at Portland International Airport, according to the National Weather Service.
Warmer winds that were expected to hit areas south of the city and ward off any snow there traveled farther and kept snow from falling in Portland, too, said Noah Alviz, a meteorologist with the weather service in Portland. East winds in Clark County and the Columbia River Gorge brought snow to those regions, however.
Sunday night could see precipitation that alternates between rain and snow as the overnight temperature hovers around freezing, but any accumulation in the Portland area would be below an inch.
