The revelations regarding the repeated Tasing of an unarmed homeless man by six Gresham police officers, and the subsequent actions taken by the Gresham Police Department, are disturbing, disgusting and demand immediate action, (“City of Gresham says officers who repeatedly Tased homeless man did not violate laws, policies,” June 15).
The officers used their Tasers on Ronald Amato in spite of his screams and obvious confusion. The accusation that he had assaulted a nearby city homeless services worker was not true, according to witnesses from neighboring businesses, and he had the property owner’s permission to be where he was. Yet the city of Gresham has determined these officers did not violate any laws or policies. It appears Gresham’s laws and policies are very much in need of revision.
