On April 12, I joined over 100 other Oregonians at the Capitol in Salem to participate in Food for All Oregonians Advocacy Day for Senate Bill 610. The turnout was powerful. Speaking with legislators about the bill, and expressing gratitude to those representatives and senators, both Democrats and Republicans, who support it, was deeply inspiring.
Food is a human right, no matter where you were born. SB 610 will ensure that everyone in Oregon has access to the food we need to thrive. It will take important steps toward a future where immigration status no longer drives hunger and poverty in our communities. Senate Bill 610 would allow 62,000 Oregonians, currently and unjustly excluded from access to food security because of their immigration status, to access SNAP. This means food for infants and children and their parents and grandparents. This means increased stability at home and in school. This means good business. This means fundamental justice.
Food for All Oregonians is good for all Oregonians. It is fair to all. I urge readers to let their legislators know of their support for this bill. To learn more and to show your support for this bill, visit: https://www.foodforallor.org.
