Readers respond: Next session, pass Right to Repair

Oregon’s 2023 legislative session recently came to an end, bringing many new bills into law. However, none of them protect our right to repair, despite the fact that a bill addressing this issue was proposed. This means that Oregonians will continue paying unnecessary high costs to repair or replace their devices, (“Oregon right-to-repair bill dies in committee, again,” April 8).

Independent repair shops often cannot access the tools, information or parts they need to repair our phones and computers. We are pushed to either take our broken devices to expensive manufacturer-supported repair groups or replace them completely. The Right to Repair bill would ensure that local repair shops have the resources to fix the technology on which we depend.

Right to Repair is a law that would help all Oregonians, and our legislators need to prioritize this bill during their next session.
