All of this discussion about pumping our own gas leads me to share these thoughts, (“Bill to let Oregon drivers pump their own gas passes House,” March 20).
First, I do not want to get out of the car to pump my own gas. Secondly, to show my appreciation for the attendants, working outside in all kinds of weather, I always tip them a couple of dollars in appreciation.
Many people put money in a tip jar in a self-serve coffee shop where the attendant does very little but take your money. Don’t stop tipping them. But I want to promote the practice of tipping the gas pump attendants who allow you to stay safely and comfortably inside your vehicle.
Most people won’t miss a buck or two, and the attendant will certainly appreciate it.
