The Portland Timbers may have found the young right back they’ve been searching for.
According to a report from Tom Bogert of MLSSoccer.com, the Timbers are in advanced talks to sign 19-year-old Colombian defender Juan David Mosquera. While nothing is agreed to yet, Bogert reports the talks between the Timbers and Colombian side Independiente Medellín are advanced.
Mosquera’s value according to transfermarkt is approximately $1.1 million. He has made 59 appearances for Medellín and, according to Bogert’s reporting, would fill the final U-22 Initiative slot for the Timbers.
The U-22 initiative allows MLS teams to sign up to three players aged 22 and under at a reduced hit to the salary cap ($150,000 for players 20 and younger, $200,000 for those ages 21-22 at the time of signing).
