One person at a bus stop died after a car crashed into a bystander at Southeast Cesar E. Chavez Boulevard and Taylor Street, Portland police said Saturday.
The crash occurred about 6:30 p.m. Saturday in the Sunnyside neighborhood. When officers arrived, they found a car rolled over onto the sidewalk and through a bus stop.
The person who died was in the bus stop, the police bureau said. Police said the driver, whom they did not identify, remained at the scene and was not injured. The crash closed Southeast Cesar E. Chavez Boulevard between Yamhill Street and Salmon Street during the investigation.
Portland police said Saturday’s fatality was the 36th traffic death of 2023 and the fifth in the last 10 days.
