The Clackamas County Commission’s plan to free up funding to build a new courthouse without raising taxes has spurred an irate response from the elected sheriff.
In a public letter published last week, Sheriff Angela Brandenburg accused the commission of trying to pay for the $313 million courthouse with a plan that “diverts” money from two funding sources that were sold to the voters as dedicated to increasing jail cell beds, implementing body-worn cameras and putting more boots on the ground in rural areas.
