The security guard who was killed Saturday at Legacy Good Samaritan Medical Center was a “dedicated” employee who died protecting the Northwest Portland hospital’s employees and patients, Legacy Health said in a statement.
“It is with great sadness that we share the news about a devastating tragedy that occurred today,” the release said.
Legacy identified the slain security officer as Bobby Smallwood, saying he was “one of our dedicated safety and security officers (who was) tragically shot and killed while protecting our patients and employees.” A second hospital employee, whom Legacy did not identify, was injured and was reportedly in stable condition.
