With spring chinook salmon catches slower than usual in the cold, smelt-choked lower Columbia River, Oregon and Washington met Tuesday afternoon and extended both recreational fishing and commercial net seasons in off-channel areas.
Once scheduled to close Friday downriver from Bonneville Dam, sportfishing will now be open through Tuesday, April 11.
Rules are the same: Boat and bank fishing from Buoy 10 upriver to the Beacon Rock deadline, and bank fishing only from Beacon Rock to the Bonneville Dam deadline. Bag limit is one adult hatchery chinook salmon per day.
