Snow again in Portland on Saturday? Yep, it’s possible

For everyone with snowmen still unmelted in their yards: They might have company soon.

Snow is possible Saturday, and this time, the National Weather Service is feeling confident that Portland might see it stick, at least in the morning.

“Things have started to line up to suggest there is a chance of some snow making it to the valley floor,” said Chris Burling, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Portland, on Friday.

“We’re looking at probably a 30% chance of an inch or more of snow anywhere in the metro,” he noted, particularly on the west side.

There’s a scenario, Burling said, where there could be up to four inches in the West Hills, but at this point, that’s not what is expected.

Still, he said, “It is in the realm of possibility.”

Apparently, the National Weather Service isn’t taking any chances this time. The Portland metro area is under a Winter Weather Advisory from 4 a.m. to noon on Saturday.

What is expected is closer to an inch of snow, Burling said, coming between 3 a.m. and 10 a.m. Saturday morning.

The good news is that temperatures will hover near freezing and then rise during the day, possibly to 40 degrees, which should effectively melt any snow on the ground.

Whatever is going on with this endless winter, it certainly appears that Stumptown Fil was right.
