The Washington County jail closed its intake unit for more than three hours Sunday due to a staffing shortage.
The intake unit shut down at 10:45 a.m., said Detective Shannon Wilde, a spokesperson for the Washington County Sheriff’s Office that runs the jail. It was expected to reopen at 2:15 p.m., she said.
Wilde said the jail would have admitted a person under arrest if necessary.
“The main focus is people already in custody,” she said.
The Hillsboro facility has capacity for 572 adults. On a typical day it books 49 people, according to information posted to the website of the sheriff’s office.
