The Story Behind The The Godfather
The Godfather is inspired by the classic 1972 film of the same name and was made popular in that decade. No one knows exactly when the drink was created, who first crafted it, or if “Godfather” actor Marlon Brando ever consumed the cocktail (as spirits brand Disaronno would suggest).
But as Esquire explains, many of Don Vito’s business dealings happened over a glass of Scotch. As for the second ingredient — amaretto — no one knows how that showed up in the cocktail, though the classic Italian liqueur could simply be used to commemorate everyone’s favorite Italian mafia boss. Either way, this simple cocktail sounds like an offer we can’t refuse.

- 1/2 ounce amaretto
