The Story Behind The Rum Runner
The Rum Runner cocktail memorializes the early days of Prohibition, when “rum-running” captains would load up their boats with liquor on the islands of Bimini and illegally transport them back to Florida.
First created in the 1950s by “Tiki John” Ebert at the Holiday Isle Tiki Bar in Islamorada, Fla., the Rum Runner is a classic Key West cocktail that blends both light and dark rums with flavored liqueurs and tropical fruit juice. Delicious and refreshing, this seaside delight offers a fusion of sweet fresh fruit and spicy rum — a combination that is widely loved for its ability to beat the heat.
