    Track and Field: Oregon City’s Sophia Beckmon sets new state record in the long jump at the 2022 Nike Outdoor Nationals

    Oregon City’s Sophia Beckmon continues to set new standards in the long jump.

    Beckmon set a new Class 6A record in the long jump after posting a leap of 20 feet, 8 inches at the 2022 Nike Outdoor Nationals on Friday at Hayward Field. Beckmon won the long jump title for the second consecutive year at the event.

    Beckmon, who will be a senior in the fall, improved on her recent state record of 20 feet, 1 1/2 inches she registered at the Class 6A state championships in May.

    Beckmon was among a number of Oregon high school track and field athletes who competed and performed very well at the event during the weekend.

    Lake Oswego’s Mia Brahe-Pedersen won the 200 meters in a time of 23.25 seconds. Lily Jones, a graduate of Roosevelt, finished third with a time 23.80 seconds. Brahe-Pedersen finished second in the 100 meters in a time of 11:36 seconds and Jones was fourth in a time of 11.54 seconds.

    Lake Oswego’s Kate Peters won the two-mile event in a time of nine minutes, 51.48 seconds. Charlotte Richman, a graduate of Wells, finished second in the 5,000 meters in a time of 16:46.45 and Franklin’s Kaiya Robertson finished third in one mile with a time of 4:47.33.

    Oregon City’s Harley Daniel finished second in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.05 seconds, the second-fastest time in Oregon girls prep history.

    Brahe-Pedersen helped the Lake Oswego 4×100-meter relay team (Quinn Greene, Josie Donelson, Dakota Webb-Hawkins) to a second-place finish with a time of 43.37 seconds. The Mondo Track Club (Barrett Justema, Teaghan Knox, Claire McDonald, Magdalene Williams) finished third in the 4×800-meter relay in a time of 9:06.57.

    Kyreese Hollands, a graduate of Central Catholic, finished third in the javelin with a throw of 152 feet, seven inches. Cascades’ Emma Gates was second in the high jump at five feet, 10 1/2 inches.

    On the boys side, Benjamin Balazs, who graduated from Sunset, finished first in the 2,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 5:47.14.

    Nolan Malcomson, who graduated from Wells, finished second in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 52.47 seconds. Milwaukie’s Logan Law was second in the 5,000 meters in the time of 14:34.29 while Franklin’s Charlie North finished third in the two-mile in a time of 8:54.86.

    The Forest Park Track Club’s 4xMile relay team of Finn Chamberlain, Henry Alexander, Tucker Bowerfind and Aiden Smith finished first with a time of 17:36.02. The Tualatin Track Club’s 4×200 relay team of Noah Ogoli, Marcus Ludes, Alex Smith and Joshua Tedlock finished third in a time of 1:30.15.

    Hermiston’s Caden Hottman finished second in the hammer throw with a toss 204 feet, nine 3/4 inches.
