Portland Trail Blazers’ legend Bill Walton will be featured on an upcoming ESPN “30-for-30″ film.
The four-part series, titled “The Luckiest Guy in the World,” focuses on the iconic life of the Hall of Famer and college basketball commentator. The series chronicles Walton’s rise as a “high school basketball phenom and game-changing big man for the UCLA dynasty; an injury-plagued NBA lightning rod defined by championships and setbacks.”
The series will bounce back and forth from Walton’s time on the court with the Trail Blazers and Boston Celtics. Walton’s involvement with civic unrest and the anti-war protests at UCLA will also be part of the series. The series will be accompanied by a soundtrack featuring Walton’s favorite musical group, the Grateful Dead.
The series features commentary from Walton and his family, Larry Bird, Julius Ervin, Lionel Hollins, Jack Ramsay, Artis Gilmore, World B. Free, Ralph Lawler, Brent Musburger, Robert Parish, Kevin McHale, among others.
The series premiere is scheduled for June 6.
