Trail Blazers work out 6 NBA draft prospects led by first-round talent, Max Lewis out of Pepperdine

The Portland Trail Blazers brought in six more NBA draft prospects for work outs on Thursday ahead of next week’s NBA draft.

Not on the list, Alabama forward Brandon Miller, a projected top three pick. He could be on tap for Friday.

Thursday’s crew included one player projected to be a late first-round pick, Max Lewis (Pepperdine).

The Blazers hold the No. 3, No. 23 and No. 41 picks in the 2023 NBA draft.

Other prospects brought in Thursday were Myles Burns (Ole Miss), Antoine Davis (Detroit Mercy), Sir’Jabari Rice (Texas), Oscar Tshiebwe (Kentucky) and DeAndre Williams (Memphis).

Each is projected to be selected in the second-round or go undrafted.

Lewis, a 6-foot-7 guard/forward, would bring immediate offense to the Blazers roster. Last season as sophomore, he averaged 17.1 points, 5.7 rebounds and 2.8 assists in 31.4 minutes per game.

Lewis, who shot 46.8% from the field and 34.8% on threes, displayed a wide-array of offensive moves while playing for the Waves. Maybe most notable among them is how well he uses his extensive length when going to the basket.

Lewis is considered to be a solid and willing defender but lacks the elite athleticism possessed by many NBA wings. Still, he believes that he can make an instant impact hitting open shots and playing defense.

“That’s the main thing I feel like I can do,” he told reporters.

Lewis said he has worked out for 11 teams with up to three more coming up. Based on his experience so far, Lewis believes he could be gone before the Blazers pick at No. 23.

“In my opinion, after just being in this environment, I feel like I’m a top 20 guy,” he said. “We’ll see. Sky’s the limit.”
