Sabrina Ionescu left no doubt who the best 3-point shooter was at the WNBA’s All-Star Weekend.
The New York Liberty and former Oregon Ducks’ star dominated the competition with a record-setting performance in the 3-point shooting contest Friday afternoon.
Ionescu scored 37 out of possible 40 points in the final round of the competition. Ionescu’s 37 points set the all-time, single-round record in both the WNBA and NBA. She missed just two of 25 shots during the round to easily win at the Michelob Ultra Arena in Las Vegas.
Ionescu, participating in her second All-Star Weekend, missed her first shot, but started rolling from there. She made 25 of her next 26 shots, including a stretch of making 20 consecutive shots. Ionescu screamed after making her final shot.
Her incredible shooting display broke the record of 30 points set by Chicago Sky guard Allie Quigley in 2022. Ionescu’s 37 points would’ve also set an NBA record, eclipsing the total of 31 points set by Stephen Curry and Tyrese Haliburton.
Ionescu reached the second and final round after scoring 26 points in the opening round. She finished second to Seattle Storm guard’s Sami Whitcomb’s 28 points. Dallas Wings guard Arike Ogunbowale also advanced with a score of 21 points. Whitcomb scored 24 points and Ogunbowale totaled 11 points in the final round.
