Oregon delivered a stunning blowout in its biggest nonconference game of the season.
Allee Bunker homered twice and had four RBIs, Terra McGowan went yard and drove in three and Stevie Hansen threw a one-hit shutout in a 8-0 win for the No. 22 Ducks over No. 3 Florida Saturday afternoon at the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic in Cathedral City, Calif.
It was Oregon’s first win over a top 5 team since beating then-No. 2 UCLA on April 19, 2021 and its most runs against a top 5 opponent since an 11-0 win against then-No. 2 Florida State on May 6, 2017
Hanna Delgado led off with a triple and Bunker homered to give Oregon an early 2-0 lead. It was the first runs allowed on the season by Florida ace Elizabeth Hightower.
KK Humphreys hit a solo home run in the third and McGowan hit a two-run shot to make it 5-0 in the fifth and end the day for Hightower (6-1), who allowed five runs on six hits and two walks with no strikeouts in 4.1 innings.
Other than an error in the fourth, Hansen was untouchable until a two-out single in the sixth, the only hit she allowed against the top hitting team in the country. It was by far the best performance in the career of the sophomore right-hander, who relied on her defense for 15 flyouts and five groundouts.
McGowan hit an RBI single and Bunker followed with another two-run home run in the seventh.
Oregon (10-3) faces No. 24 Missouri at 3 p.m. Saturday.
