The OSAA’s Class 6A boys golf championship might be a battle on Tuesday, as Monday’s results have it as a close race so far.
Tigard and Lake Oswego ended the first day tied for first in the team race with 304 strokes. Lincoln is third with 312 strokes.
Tigard’s Douglas Bailey is paving the way for the Tigers. The senior is first with 3-under par 69 after a day of competition. In second place is Colby Sullivan of McNary with 2-under par 70 and Ka’ena Kaulia of Forest Grove is third with 1-over par 71.
On the girls side, Sunset is looking at dethroning Metro League rival Jesuit. The Apollos lead after the first day with 335 strokes. Grants Pass and the reigning champion Crusaders are tied for second with 339.
Wells’ Helen Brodahl leads the Class 6A girls race after the first day with 1-under par 71. Anna Poulin of Jesuit, Erika Kobayashi of Sunset and Maya Promwongsa of Tualatin are tied for second with 3-over par 75.
Brodahl was the state runner-up last season, finishing second to Cleveland’s Kyra Ly — whose 14-under par 130 is a state championship record.
Class 5A
The Class 5A boys title will be hotly contested on Tuesday. Wilsonville’s Michael Flaherty and Bend’s Silas Walker each have 4-over 76. In third is Bend’s Kyle Garrity with 5-over 77.
The Wilsonville boys are holding a tight lead after the first day with 322 strokes. In second is Summit with 324 and third is La Salle Prep with 336.
In the girls race, Summit’s Zoe Garcia leads the way with 2-over 74. In second is North Eugene’s Francesca Tomp with 3-over 75 and in third is Wilsonville’s Evie Dunn with 4-over 76.
The Summit and Wilsonville girls are knotted at 337 strokes each after the first day. In third is Crescent Valley with 383.
Class 4A
Leading the way in Class 4A boys golf is North Bend’s Owen Bascom with 1-under 70. In second is Massimo Cereghino of Molalla with even par 71. Third is Ontario’s Tyce Helmick with 2-over 73.
Baker/Powder Valley is leading the team race with 309 strokes. Molalla is second with 324 and Crook County is third with 325.
Class 4A/3A/2A/1A girls
Esha Reddy of Marist Catholic leads the race with 1-under 70. In second place is Dufur’s Tora Timinsky with an even-par 71 and in third is Cascade’s Maddie Duskin with 1-over 72.
Crook County’s girls are the top in the classification with 359 strokes. In second is Dufur with 363 and third is Banks with 378.
Class 3A/2A/1A boys
Siuslaw’s Ryan Klampe is the leader after day one with 1-under par 71. Tied for second place is Brock Drury of St. Mary’s, and Benjamin Tieu and Mathew Chan of Oregon Episocpal with 2-over par 74.
Oregon Episcopal leads the team race with 304 strokes. In second is St. Mary’s (309) and Valley Catholic is third with 319.
